The Missouri State women’s soccer team was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net in its final regular season Missouri Valley Conference match as Indiana State blanked the Bears 2-0 Sunday in Terre Haute, Ind. The Bears will enter the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament with a 6-10-2 season record and a 2-2-2 conference mark.
Sycamores’ Sarah Whiteley scored her seventh goal of the season at the 31:39 minute mark of the first half off a pass from defender Alyssa Ramsey. Whiteley received the ball inside the box and fired a shot past Bears’ keeper Jackie Jasper.
Indiana State struck again in the second half with a header from forward Ellen Gittenmeier. Sophomore Erin Bianchi sent a high cross that Gittenmeir headed into the top left side corner in the first five minutes of the second half.
Missouri State’s Jordan Reppell led the offense posting two shots, with two on goal. The Bears totaled for 12 shots and the Sycamores tallied ten.
Indiana State out cornered the Bears 7-3 and Sycamores’ keeper Rachel Rudzis posted five saves while Jasper recorded seven taking the loss.
The Missouri State women’s soccer squad will compete against Drake University in the first round of the State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, Sunday at 1 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
