Pajares Earns Sun Belt Swimmer of the Week Honor

Missouri State's Eduardo Pajares has earned the Sun Belt's Male Swimmer of the Week title for the week of Jan. 15-21, the league office announced Wednesday. This is his second honor of the season.

Pajares played a huge role in Missouri State's three-meet sweep over the weekend. The sophomore led the Bears with three wins in their 128-115 victory over Southern Illinois, Saturday. He swam his way to the top of the Sun Belt’s 400 IM list with an event win in a personal-best time of 4:00.03. Pajares also won the 200 backstroke in a season-best time of 1:48.51, which ranks second in the Sun Belt after the weekend. He served as the lead leg in the winning 400 medley relay that beat SIU by over four seconds as well.

Pajares added two wins in the Bears’ win over Drury University, Thursday. He was the lead leg in the winning 200 medley relay and also won the 100 backstroke in a season-best time of 51.76.

In the Bears’ triumph over Evansville, Pajares claimed gold in the 200 IM in a time of 1:57.15.

The Missouri State men's swimming and diving team will take three weeks off from competition before competing in its first-ever Sun Belt Conference Championship on Thurs.-Sat., Feb. 15-17, in Nashville, Tenn. The MSU women's team will compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Thurs.-Sat., Feb. 8-10, in Carbondale, Ill.
