MSU Women's Soccer Blanks SEMO, 1-0

Freshman Samantha Aguilar scored in the 67th minute to lead the Missouri State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Southeast Missouri State on Sunday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The win improved the Bears to 3-2 on the season as SEMO dipped to 1-1.

Aguilar staked the Bears to 1-0 lead at 66:17 with her first collegiate goal. The Lenexa, Kan., native headed the ball between the pipes off a corner kick from senior Caroline Rooker who recorded her second assist on the young season.

Missouri State dominated the first half of the contest firing 10 shots to SEMO's two, including five shots on goal, but was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. The second half of the match proved to be more even with the Bears taking four shots to the Redhawks' five. Missouri State's defense limited SEMO to only two shots on goal with MSU goalkeeper Jackie Jasper recording two saves in the net.

Jasper, an MSU sophomore, recorded her first shutout of the season and tallied the eighth of her career. She improves to 3-2.

The Bears will compete in the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback Classic where they will challenge Alabama A&M Friday, Sept. 8, at 4:30 p.m., and Louisiana Tech on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 2 p.m., in Fayetteville, Ark.
