The Missouri State men's soccer team opened the 2006 season with a 0-0, double overtime tie against Oral Roberts University Friday night at Plaster Field. The Bears saw two goals wiped away on offsides penalties, as MSU controlled the offensive zone most of the night but was unable to find the back of the net. Both teams start the season with 0-0-1 records.

The Bears' best scoring chance came in the first overtime when sophomore Justin Alford found junior Yanik Joseph wide open at the net with a crossfield pass. Joseph was unable to capitalize, as his header attempt went high. The Bears denied the Golden Eagles on their best scoring chance of either overtime, when junior goalkeeper Lance Parker made a save on a shot by ORU's Gary Duran with 11 seconds remaining in the second extra stanza.

For the match, Missouri State narrowly outshot Oral Roberts, 20-18, including an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Parker recorded four saves on the evening, while ORU's Carlos Veron made eight stops.

Junior Ryan Anderson led the Bears with four shots on the evening, including one on goal. Senior captain Justin Douglass fired three shots, including two on goal. Joseph came through with three shots, while Alford, junior Danny May, and senior Brian Pasierb all recorded two.

Missouri State will look to notch its first win of the season when the Bears travel to the University of Missouri-Kansas City for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Aug. 27.
