The Missouri State volleyball team opened the 2006 season with a convincing 3-0 win over Morgan State University Friday evening at the Hilton Classic in Fort Collins, Colo., hosted by Colorado State University. Scores in favor of the Bears were 30-12, 30-22 and 30-24, and the team never trailed by more than three points at any time in the match.
Missouri State (1-0) cruised through the first game and never looked back, capitalizing on 11 Morgan State attack errors and and hitting .348 as a team for a 30-12 game one win. The Bears would finish the match with a .269 hitting percentage, committing just 16 attack errors in the match, while Morgan State failed to break even, attacking at a -.017 clip.
Individually, senior Erin O’Connor paced the offense with 14 kills against just two errors on 32 swings, while Jamie Adams and Addie Foley chipped in 11 and 10 putaways, respectively.
Katelyn Panzau ran the Missouri state offense to the tune of 37 assists and added five kills in nine attempts. Adeana McAfee began the 2006 season where she left off in 2005, following up her school-record 4.95 digs per game as a junior with 16 in three games in the season opener.
Missouri State continues play in the Hilton Classic on Saturday with matches against Texas A&M at 11 a.m. and Colorado State at 8 p.m.
