The Missouri State men's soccer team ended its exhibition play with a 1-1 tie against the University of Tulsa Saturday night at Plaster Field. Sophomore Justin Alford got the Bears on the board first at the 18-minute mark of the first half. Tulsa answered with the tying goal in the 69th minute of the second half, forcing a draw.
Alford scored from a yard out following a cross from junior Yanik Joseph. Junior Brett Williams hit Joseph with a pass from beyond midfield to set up the goal. The Bears went into halftime with the 1-0 lead and a four shots-on-goal advantage.
Tulsa took control of the offensive side in the second half, and found the goal on a Jose Parada shot from 8 yards out. The Golden Hurricanes also saw a shot hit the crossbar in the last five minutes, as they outshot the Bears 10-3 in the second half.
For the match, Tulsa outshot Missouri State, 17-10, but the Bears held the advantage in shots on goal, 5-4. MSU goalkeeper Lance Parker recorded three saves on the night. Junior Ryan Anderson led the Bears with three shots on the night. Alford, freshman Kyle Windmueller, and junior Brett Williams each added two shots.
The Bears will open regular season play on Friday, Aug. 25, with a 7 p.m. home match against Oral Roberts University at Plaster Field.
