Missouri State's Liz Geisler has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, for the week of Jan. 25-31, the league office announced Wednesday. This is Geisler's fourth consecutive week receiving this honor. Seth Johnson was recognized as MVC Male Swimmer of the Week.
Geisler was the highlight for MSU's women's swimming and diving team at Saturday's dual meet against TCU. Geisler won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:22.98 and also swam to first-place in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing the race in 5:08.41. She finished third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.35. Geisler currently has the top time in the Valley for the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.65), 500-yard freestyle (4:56.59), 1,000-yard freestyle (10:19.53) and the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:21.50).
Johnson earned a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.66) for the Bears at Saturday's dual meet against TCU. He remains undefeated in the 200 breaststroke in dual meet competition this season. Johnson also added a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM, finishing the race in 1:51.50.
The Bears will swim their last home meet of the 2005-06 season on Saturday, Feb. 4 against Webster University, beginning at 2 p.m.
