Bears blast Braves, 2-0, for MVC victory

A goal by Missouri State freshman Kyle Windmueller in the 10th minute was all the Bears would need as the men’s soccer team defeated the Bradley Braves in a 2-0 decision Saturday in Peoria, Ill. Junior Brett Williams scored his first goal of the season less than three minutes into the second half to put the Braves away. The win improves the Bears to 7-4-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the Valley. Bradley dips to 5-6-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in the conference.

The Bears got on the board early in the first half when senior Kyle Hopson sent a free kick to Windmueller who shot the ball past the Braves’ keeper to the far post for his second goal of the season.

Another free kick from Hopson proved to be effective at the 47:43 mark as Williams found the pass and flicked the ball between the posts to give the Bears their insurance goal and the 2-0 lead.

For the game, Missouri State outshot Bradley 15-12, but the Braves outcornered the Bears 5-2.

In goal for the Bears, junior Lance Parker finished with four saves and notched his sixth shutout of the season, tying him for fourth-best on Missouri State’s single-season charts in shutouts. Mike Haynes added two saves in the net for the Braves.

Missouri State will be back in action Wednesday, October 11, in Evansville, Ind., to challenge the University of Evansville at 7 p.m. in Missouri Valley Conference play.
