The Missouri State women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Illinois State Sunday in Normal, Ill., in its final regular season Missouri Valley Conference match of the year. The Bears fell to 9-7-2 on the season and 2-3-1 in the Valley. Illinois State improves to 6-7-3, 2-3-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, Caroline Sweeney put the Bears up 1-0 in the 49th minute with an unassisted goal. The score was her 10th of the season.
The Redbirds answered back 10 minutes later when Amanda Wisniewsi found the back of the net and evened the score. Carrie Schurr of Illinois State scored the game-winner with a little over five minutes left in the contest.
Illinois State outshot Missouri State in the first half 9-4, but the Bears had a 8-3 shot advantage in the second.
In goal for the Bears, Jackie Jasper, recorded four saves in the match and Redbirds' Andrea Shaw also posted four.
Missouri State ends its regular season with a nonconference match against Oklahoma on Thursday, Oct. 26, in Norman, Okla. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
