Missouri State junior Kyla Meuer has been selected the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the period of Dec. 19-25, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.
Meuer, a three-year member of the Bears swimming and diving team, played a key role in Missouri State's victory at the Delta State University Christmas Invitational on Dec. 17-19. Meuer, who has a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average in real estate, captured the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke titles and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle. A native of Oak Harbor, Wash., Meuer, established a MSU record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.86.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
The Missouri State women's swimming and diving team returns to action January 14 against the University of Missouri at the Hammons Student Center at 1 p.m.
