Bears Fall in Second Day of Purdue Invitational

The Missouri State men's and women's swimming and diving teams have both fallen into last place on Saturday's second day of the Purdue University Invitational, in West Lafayette, Ind. The men ended the night with 241 points and the women 136.

Allison Zeller had the top performance of the night for the MSU women's team, finishing sixth in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.49, to break the Missouri State varsity record. The previous record was set by Zeller at 58.39 on Dec. 18, 2004 at the Delta State Invitational. Zeller also led off the 200-yard medley relay, that placed sixth in 1:48.02.

On the men's side, Matt Beasley had the top finish of the night for the Bears in the 200-yard freestyle, earning third place in a time of 1:39.70. Beasley was also a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay that placed fifth (6:47.98) and was on the sixth-place 200-yard medley relay (1:33.24). Victor Serra added a fourth-place win in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 49.75. Seth Johnson had a top-five finish for the Bears, finishing fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.44.

After 27 events, the women's side of the meet is led by Purdue with 544 points, followed by Tennessee (466), Florida (459), Missouri (322.50), Northwestern (322.50), Southern Illinois (156) and Missouri State (136). The men, after 28 events, are led by Florida (603.50), followed by Purdue (451), Northwestern (423), Southern Illinois (346), Missouri (244.50) and Missouri State (241).

The Bears' teams with be back in competition Sunday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m., for the conclusion of the Purdue Invitational.
