Junior forward Chelsea Anderson's three second half goals led the Missouri State women's soccer squad (8-2-2, 3-0 in MVC) to a 3-1 Missouri Valley Conference victory over the University of Northern Iowa Panthers (1-12, 0-2 in MVC), Saturday afternoon at Cooper Sports Complex. Anderson's hat trick is just the third in Missouri State women's soccer history, and gives her six goals on the season.
The match remained scoreless into the second period of action, when the Bears got on the board at the 58th minute, as Angela Parsons fed Anderson, who scored to put Missouri State 1-0.
Just over three minutes later, UNI would counter with a goal of their own, on a cross from left to right that found freshman Holly Winter for the score.
Anderson's second goal of the match and game winner came at the 67:28 mark, off Laura Galati's first career assist, that Anderson took one on one with UNI goalkeeper Krista Thorley, putting Missouri State ahead 2-1.
Kate Blair sent a cross to Anderson just over two minutes later for the score, giving Anderson the hat trick and her sixth goal of the season.
The Bears held UNI to one shot on goal in the first half, and just three for the match, and outshot the Panthers overall 14-6.
Jackie Japser earned the victory in goal for Missouri State, and improves to 8-2-2 on the season. Thorley who pulled in fives saves for UNI, including a big first half save on a Missouri State penalty kick, falls to 1-12 on the season.
The Bears continue Valley action at home next weekend, starting with Illinois State Friday at 7 p.m., before they face Drake, Sunday at 1 p.m.
