Junior defensive lineman Colby Isbell turned in a career night in helping the Bears to their first shutout in a season opener since 2003 and their largest margin of victory in a quarter century. Thanks in large part to Isbell’s seven tackles, 2.5 sacks and 5.5 TFLs totaling 27 yards in losses, the MSU defense did not allow Southwestern to enter the red zone and held the ‘Builders to seven first downs and 116 yards of total offense. Isbell, who came within just one-half tackle of matching teammate Dylan Cole for the MSU single-game record for stops for a loss, did all of his damage in the first half and helped the Bears hold SC to a mere 0.86 yards per carry on the night.
