This week's Murney Student-Athlete of the Week is Missouri State baseball's Brandt Thompson. Thompson matched an MVC-season high with 12 strikeouts Friday against SIUE and became the first of those pitchers to do so without issuing a walk, setting the stage for the Bears to tie a school record with 19 strikeouts in the contest. Thompson’s 12 Ks in 6.1 innings were the most by a Bear since current Kansas City Royal Dylan Coleman had 13 on May 11, 2018. It was also the first time since Coleman in 2016 that an MSU hurler had double-digit strikeouts without a walk. Coleman had 11 punchouts in that 2016 contest, and no pitcher through at least the 2012 season has reached Thompson’s 12 strikeout total without yielding a free pass. Thompson gave up six hits and one earned run in the start.
