Olivia Malcolm, previously Applewhite, was introduced as a member of the Lady Bears coaching staff in May 2022. She primarily works with the team’s post players.

In four seasons on staff, Malcolm has helped produce two all-conference players, three all-freshman team members and two all-newcomer team honorees. Under her guidance, six players have accumulated 14 conference weekly honors. She also mentored the 2022-23 MVC Freshman of the Year in Jade Masogayo and the 2023-24 MVC Sixth Player of the Year in Kennedy Taylor.

In 2025-26, Malcolm’s post group was led by sophomore Lainie Douglas who was an All-CUSA second-team selection and made the Conference USA All-Tournament Team as the Lady Bears won the title to advance to the NCAA Tournament. She also mentored CUSA All-Freshman Team member and one-time Freshman of the Week Maiesha Washington.

Her resume at Mo State also features All-Newcomer Team member Sarah Linthacum and one-time Newcomer of the Week Indya Green.

Malcolm spent the previous season as an assistant coach for the Atlantic 10 regular season champion, Dayton Flyers. While there, she was responsible for the skill development of post players and scouted opponents.

Prior to her stint at Dayton, Malcolm served in multiple roles at Saint Louis University. She started out as a graduate assistant at SLU, before working her way up to director of basketball operations and then becoming an assistant coach. On the coaching staff, Malcolm assisted with all aspects of recruiting, worked with post players, served as the athletic training and sport performance liaison and scouted opponents.

Malcolm was named to the 2020 WBCA 30 Under 30 Honoree list.

Before beginning her coaching career, Malcolm played at Dayton from 2009-2013 and played three seasons of professional basketball overseas in Denmark, Ireland and France. While at Dayton, she was named the 2012-13 A10 Sixth Woman of the Year and helped lead the Flyers to a NCAA Tournament berth every season she was there.

Malcolm graduated from Dayton with a bachelor's degree in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing in 2013, before graduating with a master's in Student Personnel Administration from SLU in 2018.

She married her husband, Phillip, in August 2025.
