Dan Raines

As the director of the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Academic Achievement Center, Dan Raines works to advocate and promote the fundamental principle of life-long learning for MSU's 400 student-athletes.

Raines came to Missouri State in 2007 as an academic counselor before ascending to the role of the Achievement Center's assistant director. He was then appointed to lead the department as director in 2014. Raines oversees a staff of three full-time academic counselors and one graduate assistant. In this role, he has helped MSU student-athletes reach unprecedented levels of success in the classroom, including a Bears record 3.13 department-wide GPA for the 2015-16 academic year.

A certified middle and high school social sciences teacher, Raines arrived on the Springfield campus in 2008, following a seven-year stint as a tutor and boys varsity basketball assistant with Hinsdale South High School (District 86) in Darien, Ill.

Raines, who earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Northwestern University in 1998, completed his master advisor training, as well as a master's degree in sport management from MSU. He also maintains membership in the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).

An Oak Lawn, Ill., native, Raines resides in Springfield with his wife, Erin and stepchildren, Mady and Wyatt.
