Strong Final Round Nets Seventh-Place Finish for Men's Golf

MADISON, Ill. -- The Missouri State men's golf team posted the best final round in the field Tuesday (Sept. 29), shooting a four-under-par 280 at the Derek Dolenc Invitational at Gateway National Golf Club. The Bears finished seventh in the 17-team field with an 851 total after opening with 286-285 the first day.
Freshmen Leon Herb and Francesco Petrangeli paced MoState, finishing eighth and 15th, respectively. Herb posted the team's low score each round, carding 70-70-68-208, while Petrangeli shot 70-71-69--210. Senior Owen Swearingen and sophomore Pedro Gallegos tied for 52nd with 219 each; Swearingen carded 74-72-73 and Gallegos had 72-77-70. Junior Caden Cox shot 75-72-78--225 to tie for 73rd and senior Max Bowman tallied 79-79-81--239.
Bradley edged host SIUE for the team title, 837-839, with UT Martin (841), Western Illinois (845) and Idaho (847) rounding out the top five.
The Bears are off next week before traveling to Kennesaw State for the Pinetree Intercollegiate, Oct. 12-13.
