Meet the Bears: Martin Adds Impact Forward Gray
June 16, 2026 | Men's Basketball
SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State men's basketball head coach Cuonzo Martin announced today the addition of forward Matthew Gray to the Bears lineup for the upcoming 2026-27 season.Â
The transfer from Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia averaged 16.6 points per game last season. He is the sixth in a series of upcoming player announcements for Martin's squad.
"Matt is a physical athlete who attacks the basket with force and purpose," said Martin. "He competes with energy, welcomes contact, and plays with a chip on his shoulder. He's hungry for success, relentless in his pursuit of improvement, and determined to make an impact every time he steps on the floor. His toughness, competitive spirit, and willingness to embrace hard work allow him to affect the game on both ends of the court."
Gray led Davis & Elkins (NCAA Division II) in scoring as a junior in 2025-26, eclipsing 20 points nine times, while accounting for 4.4 rebounds per game. He also registered 50 3-pointers and shot 73 percent from the line in his only season with the Senators. He scored a season-high 32 points at Salem (W.Va) (1/31/26) and dropped in four threes and made 10-of-20 field goals at Frostburg State (2/25/26).
He played his first two seasons at Patriot League program Loyola (Maryland) where he played nine games as a sophomore (2024-25) for the Greyhounds with 6 points vs. Lancaster Bible (11/9/24) in his best outing. He played one game as a true freshman in 2023-24 before an injury shut down his season.
The native of Ashburn, Va. played a gap year season at Northfield-Mount Herman after graduating from Flint (Va.) High where he averaged 17.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game as a senior in 2021-22 and was an all-conference honoree.
