Strong Start for Jordan in CUSA Men's Golf

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Missouri State has the opening day of its first-ever Conference USA Men's Golf Championship in the books and it was Jonathan Jordan leading the way for the Bears with a one-under-par 71 on Monday (Apr. 27). The sophomore from Rolla, Mo. carded six birdies on the par 72, 6969-yard Texarkana Country Club layout and is tied for 12th in the individual standings after 18 holes.

The Bears shot 304 as a team and are 11th in the field with two rounds yet to play. UTEP and New Mexico State are tied for the early lead after firing nine-under 279's, while Liberty (284), Kennesaw State (285) and Western Kentucky (287) aren't far behind. Sam Houston is sixth with 290, followed by Middle Tennessee, Jacksonville State, Louisiana Tech and Delaware just ahead of the Bears. 

Senior Christian Rischer is second for MoState and 46th overall after carding 76, with junior Owen Swearingen turning in a 78, and freshmen Noah Naugle and Pedro Gallegos shooting 79 and 81, respectively.

Second-round play begins Tuesday morning with the Bears slated to start at 8:45 a.m.
