CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Missouri State beach volleyball put together a perfect weekend at the Austin Peay Invitational, going 4-0 with wins over Southwest Baptist, Tennessee Tech, Austin Peay and Eastern Illinois. The Bears opened the tournament with a pair of 5-0 sweeps Friday before closing the weekend Saturday with two 4-1 victories. Missouri State reached the 20-win mark during the trip and now sits at 21-3 overall.
"New partners and lineup changes didn't slow the Beach Bears down this weekend. Proud of this team for competing through adversity and continuing to grow both individually and as a program," said head coach
Ashley Emery. "You can see the buy-in across the board, we're truly playing as one unit. Excited to take what we learned this weekend and come back even stronger as we close out the regular season."
The weekend also featured a pair of career milestones, as
MacKenzie Steele recorded her 70th career win and
Manuela Niemeyer pushed her career total to 71.
Missouri State 5, Southwest Baptist 0
Missouri State opened the weekend in dominant fashion with a sweep of Southwest Baptist.
Amanda Cleary and Steele earned the point at Flight 1, while
Rylie Cepicky and
Raylee Stenzel followed with a win at No. 2.
Manuela Niemeyer and
Maddie Schrandt added another point at Flight 3, and
Morgan Bos and
Taylor Germann picked up the victory at No. 4.
Jaycee Fixsen and
Logan Kaneshiro closed out the dual with a win at Flight 5.
Missouri State 5, Tennessee Tech 0
The Bears kept rolling later Friday with another 5-0 performance against Tennessee Tech. Cleary and Steele earned another straight-sets win at the top flight, while Cepicky and Stenzel, Niemeyer and Schrandt, Bos and Germann, and Fixsen and Kaneshiro each added points to complete the shutout. Missouri State also claimed the exhibition match behind
Shea Skouby and
Gabby Liles.
Missouri State 4, Austin Peay 1
Missouri State opened Saturday with a 4-1 win over host Austin Peay to secure the program's 20th win of the season. Steele and Cleary battled to a three-set victory at Flight 1, and Cepicky and Stenzel earned the point at No. 2. Niemeyer and Schrandt added another decisive win at Flight 3, while Fixsen and Kaneshiro secured the fourth team point at No. 5. Skouby and Liles also won the exhibition match.
Missouri State 4, Eastern Illinois 1
The Bears capped the weekend with another 4-1 result against Eastern Illinois. Cleary and Steele finished the weekend unbeaten with a win at Flight 1, while Cepicky and Stenzel added a point at No. 2. Niemeyer and Schrandt stayed strong at Flight 3, and Fixsen and Kaneshiro delivered the point at No. 5 to clinch the dual victory. Eastern Illinois picked up its lone point at Flight 4.
Missouri State won 18 of 20 counting flights across the four duals and posted two sweeps during the weekend. Cleary and Steele, Cepicky and Stenzel, Niemeyer and Schrandt, and Fixsen and Kaneshiro each went a perfect 4-0 in counting matches across the invitational, while Bos and Germann added a pair of wins Friday.
