DALLAS -- For their roles in Missouri State's home victory over Kennesaw State last week, Bears football standouts Jared "Bird" Lloyd and Yousef Obeid were named Conference USA Players of the Week for their respective positions.
Lloyd, a fifth-year linebacker from Daytona Beach, Fla., was named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week after producing his fourth straight double-figure tackle game in Missouri State's 24-21 win over Kennesaw. In addition to his 10 total tackles in the game, he had one of the game's most-impactful solo tackles on fourth-and-one on Kennesaw State's opening drive of the second half, forcing a turnover on downs which the Bears turned into the go-ahead score five plays later. The CUSA leader in tackles per game (11.67), Lloyd has now accounted for 51 total stops over the last four ball games and has produced double-figure tackle totals in seven of the team's last nine contests overall. Lloyd ranks No. 2 nationally in tackles per game and No. 3 in total stops (70).
Obeid, a senior kicker from Dearborn, Mich., earned Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking the game-winning field goal against the Owls as time expired. He was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts in the victory, matching a career best for field goals in a game. Obeid also converted his only PAT attempt of the game to give him 10 points on the night, which moved him into Missouri State's career top 10 in scoring (192 points).
Joining the Missouri State tandem on this week's list of CUSA award winners were: Offensive Player of the Week Roman Gagliano of MTSU; Freshman of the Week Tyler Bell of Delaware; and Offensive Lineman of the Week Ryan Walker Jax State.
Missouri State (2-4, 1-1 CUSA) continues Conference USA action on Tuesday night at Delaware, starting at 6 p.m. (Central) on ESPNU.
