Missouri State Introduces New Clear Bag Policy for Athletic Venues

August 01, 2025

CLEAR BAG POLICY

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri State University will be introducing a new "clear bag" policy at its athletic venues, starting with the upcoming 2025-26 academic year.

The new policy was put in place to enhance existing security and public safety measures at Robert W. Plaster Stadium, Great Southern Bank Arena, Allison South Stadium, Hammons Student Center and other on-campus locations. The new policy is designed to regulate the size and types of bags that may be carried into the venue for all events.

"This will be a new process for everyone this year, so it is important that our patrons and fans plan accordingly to ensure their experience on event days is a positive one," said Executive Director of Athletic and Entertainment Facilities Keith Boaz. "Ultimately, enhancing our venue infrastructure with this policy will help keep Missouri State as a premier sports and entertainment destination."

Permissible bags include:
  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12".
  • One gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc bags or similar).
  • Small clutch bags, approximately 5.5" tall x 7.5: wide, with or without a handle or strap.
  • Spectators will be allowed to carry other items allowed into the stadium, such as binoculars, non-professional cameras and smart phones, etc., but cases for these items are not permitted.
  • Fans can bring in seat cushions 16" x 16" or smaller and not containing arms, pockets or metal.
  • Diapers, wipes and other essential childcare items may be carried in a clear plastic bag that does not exceed 12" x 6" by 12"
  • Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items, but only after a proper inspection at an entrance that is specifically designated for this purpose.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
  • Large purses
  • Coolers
  • Backpacks
  • Briefcases
  • Fanny packs
  • Mesh bags
  • Tinted or pattern designed plastic bags
  • Any bag larger than the permissible size

Non-compliant bags may not be placed into acceptable bags. Oversized bags may not be rolled, folded or otherwise manipulated to meet the sizing requirements.

Working personnel, including credentialed media members, are required to enter venues through designated and assigned entrance points where they will be subject to screening and bag inspections.
