SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State women's basketball head coach Beth Cunningham announced today the signing of transfer Maycee James. James has one year of eligibility remaining.
James spent last season at Pittsburg State, where she averaged 6.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Gorillas. She helped lead Pitt State to both MIAA Regular-Season and Postseason Tournament titles, an NCAA Division II Regional title and an appearance in the DII Final Four. James made 29 appearances and started 17 games for the Gorillas, and shot .454 (59-130) from the field, .455 (10-22) from three and .806 (54-67) from the charity stripe in 2024-25.
Prior to her time at Pitt State, James spent two seasons at Butler Community College (Kan.). Across two seasons for the Grizzlies, the 5-7 guard averaged 6.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game. James was named All-KJCCC in both of her seasons at BCC, which featured a second-team nod and a spot on the All-Defensive Team in her freshman season and an honorable mention recognition in her sophomore campaign.
The Goddard, Kan., native was a four-year letter winner at Goddard High School and earned first-team all-state honors as a senior for the Lions. In her senior campaign, she averaged 17.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.8 steals (which led all classes in Kansas) and 5.5 assists per game.
Cunningham on James:
"We're extremely excited to add Maycee to our Lady Bear family. Maycee is a proven winner and her experience, coupled with the intangibles she will bring to our program, will impact us immediately. We are thrilled to be able to get her to campus and get started!"
