Men’s Basketball Add Transfer Brooks
April 28, 2025 | Men's Basketball
SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State men's basketball head coach Cuonzo Martin has added 6-foot-4 guard Tyrique Brooks to the Bears roster for next season.
A Springfield native, Brooks is a transfer from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin where he averaged 13.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for coach Sam McMahon's Lions last season. He started 27 of 29 appearances, scoring in double figures 16 times as a true freshman.
"Tyrique is a wonderful addition to our program," said Martin. "He's got a natural burst and the instinct to make plays with his speed and athleticism. His gifts allow him to impact the game in so many ways -- scoring, creating and defending. He does it all with a joyous intensity that is contagious."
Brooks prepped at Springfield Central High School under the direction of coach Jordan Epps where he scored over 1,500 career points, averaging 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 59.6 overall and 45.1 percent from three-point range. As a senior, he earned Class 6 Co-Player of the Year, O-Zone Player of the Year, and Springfield Sports Commission Player of the Year honors, along with all-conference, all-district, and all-state accolades. He also won the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions Dunk Contest in 2024, helping lead the Bulldogs to a third-place finish in the Class 6 state tournament.
