Beach Volleyball Sweeps Oklahoma Wesleyan on Home Sand

April 01, 2025

SPRINGFIELD - Missouri State beach volleyball (12-3) handled business in its first match on campus this season with a 5-0 sweep over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday at Betty & Bobby Allison Sand Volleyball Courts. The win increases MoState's home winning streak to 24 matches dating back to 2023.

"It's always a fun time being back on our home courts after traveling," head coach Ashley Emery said. "We love seeing the faces of Missouri State students and fans supporting our Beach Bears. "Big thanks to Missouri State women's soccer for bringing the team out. The wind today was on another level, but it's great to have the opportunity to get better in those conditions."

The senior pairing of Olivia Rattler and Erin Eschleman got the winning going at Flight No. 5 to start the day, winning in straight sets over Angelina Arvizu and Natalie Ater, 21-7, 21-12. The win improves the duo to 10-2 on the season and puts them on a four-match winning streak after going 3-0 at the Battle on the Bay Tournament. Rattler earned career win No. 55 to extend her program record. Eschleman's 34th win gave her sole possession of 10th on the all-time list.

Morgan Sprague and Maddie Schrandt had an emphatic win at Flight No. 3 against Claira Warren and Emma Stubbs. The Bears pairing pulled away early in the first set and never looked back, winning 21-5, 21-11. Schrandt earned career win No. 38 to tie Chloe Tome for seventh in program history. Sprague and Schrandt are 11-4 this season.

Flight No. 4 saw the clinching point for the Bears as Rylie Cepicky and Manuela Niemeyer took down Valeria Perez and Kaytlin Sowards in similar sets, 21-12, 21-14. The duo improved their team-best record to 13-1, with their only loss coming to Palm Beach Atlantic last weekend.

The Flight No. 1 pairing of Becca Bach and Allyson Larkin had a battle against OKWU's No. 1 squad of Allison Howard and Maddy McKinney. Bach and Howard are no strangers meeting at Flight No. 1, as the two battled in each of MSU and OKWU's matches last season. The Bears came back after trailing the first set to win it, 21-18. Bach and Larkin were the only MSU duo to improve their score in the second set, taking it 21-13. Bach is now tied with former record-holder Brooke Plessner for the second-most wins in team history at 48.

MacKenzie Steele and Amanda Cleary rounded out the Bears sweep at Flight No. 2 against Jordan Isbell and Avery Forman. After starting the season 10-0, the long-time partners got back in the win column with a clean 21-8, 21-12 victory to end the match. The win marks 31 victories the two have secured together, moving them just four away from tying the program record in wins by a pair.

Missouri State will have its Senior Day on Saturday as it hosts Southwest Baptist at 10 a.m. and Park University (Mo.) at 1 p.m. Due to potential oncoming weather, there is a contingency plan in place to move the matches to Volleyball Beach Ozark. Stay tuned to social media for updates regarding potential relocation.
