ST. LOUIS – Missouri State women's basketball forward
Lainie Douglas was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced today (Jan. 27).
Across wins against Drake and Northern Iowa, Douglas averaged 11.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and shot .600 (9-15) from the field in 14.8 minutes per game. She was one of five Lady Bears to average double-figure points on the weekend.
In Friday night's overtime victory against Drake, Douglas posted 10 points (4-6 FG), grabbed five rebounds and blocked a career-high three shots. The freshman held it down for the Lady Bears in the post for the final 3:00 of the overtime period, and she secured the defensive rebound that officially sealed the win for MoState.
On Sunday afternoon in the win over UNI, the Overland Park, Kan., native poured in a career-high 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field. Douglas also went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe and pulled down four rebounds against the Panthers in just under 17 minutes on the floor.
Douglas owns three double-figure scoring performances on the season, is shooting .500 (45-90) from the field and is second on the team in blocked shots (10).
The honor marks the first award of Douglas' career.
Missouri State will hit the road next week as the Lady Bears continue conference play. MoState will take on Bradley in Peoria, Ill. on Friday, Jan. 31. Tipoff against the Braves is set for 6:00 p.m. and the game will stream on ESPN+.
