The Lady Bear Necessities
- Missouri State women's basketball closes out its non-conference slate as the Lady Bears host Southern Miss on Friday (12 p.m.) afternoon. It will mark the first-ever matchup between the Lady Bears and Lady Eagles.
- With a win over SEMO on Monday, Missouri State recorded its 1,000th program victory to become just the 33rd team in NCAA Division I to achieve the feat. The Lady Bears are in their 56th season of women's collegiate basketball and own an all-time record of 1,000-642 (.609). The victory also marked Beth Cunningham's 50th win at the helm of the Lady Bears program.
- Kaemyn Bekemeier (So., Republic, Mo.) has set a career high in points in two out of the last three games. She is coming off her first-career double-double as she posted career highs in both points (16) and rebounds (11) in the win at SEMO. Her .517 (15-29) three-point FG percentage ranks 2nd in the Missouri Valley Conference.
- In Monday's 28-point win at SEMO, the Lady Bears got a season-high 39 points from their bench with 33 points coming courtesy of Bekemeier and Cady Pauley. Pauley (Jr., Milan, Mo.) led the team with a career-high 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field.
- MoState ranks 10th nationally in three-point field goal percentage this season, shooting at a .395 (68-172) clip from beyond the arc. Three Lady Bears have at least 15 3FG - Daniels (21), Rocca (16) and Bekemeier (15). Daniels ranks 36th in the nation with a .447 (21-47) three-point field goal percentage.
- Missouri State has been impressive on its home court, boasting an 85-13 record inside Great Southern Bank Arena since the beginning of the 2017-18 season. Under Cunningham, the Lady Bears are 28-5 at home, including a 3-0 record in Springfield this season.
- The Lady Bears have been extremely balanced on offense this season. Four Lady Bears are averaging at least 10.0 points/game, while Paige Rocca is right on the cusp of that mark at 9.0 points/game. Through the first 10 games of the season, six different Lady Bears have led the team in scoring and eight players have posted at least one game with 10 or more points.
- In the Cunningham era, Missouri State is 30-4 when scoring 70+ points, 36-1 when holding opponents to 65 points or less and 27-0 when opponents score less than 60 points.
- Missouri State was picked to finish fifth in the MVC preseason poll for the second consecutive year. MSU finished third in the regular season a year ago with a 15-5 conference record. Stokes earned a spot on the preseason All-MVC first team after earning second-team honors a year ago, in addition to being named to the MVC All-Newcomer and All-Defensive teams.
The Series & Scouting the Lady Eagles
Friday afternoon's game will mark the first-ever meeting between Missouri State and Southern Miss.
The Lady Eagles were picked to finish 7th in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Southern Miss is led by Melyia Grayson, a preseason All-Sun Belt second team pick, who is averaging 15.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Southern Miss is 4-6 on the season, including an 0-3 record on the road.
