Athletics Breaks Semester Record for Academic Performance

SPRINGFIELD -- As a department, Missouri State's 466 student-athletes combined for a collective 3.368 grade-point average with more than 6,200 academic hours of class time for the fall 2024 semester, the university announced Tuesday. It marks the highest semester GPA on record for the department with 18 teams posting a 3.0 grade-point average or better for the term.

All told, 355 Bears recorded a 3.0 GPA or better for the semester, while 239 individuals made the Dean's List with a 3.5 GPA or better. Likewise, 79 student-athletes posted a perfect 4.0 GPA this fall.

The fall term also represents the highest semester GPA on record for men's athletics programs (3.148) and the highest-ever for the sports of football, beach volleyball, softball, women's swimming & diving, and track & field.

Led by beach volleyball (3.822), women's soccer (3.752), softball (3.733) and women's cross country (3.703), all 13 MoState women's programs achieved a 3.0 or higher. Beach volleyball tied a departmental high-water mark for semester GPA by a single team. Meanwhile, women's tennis (3.605), women's swimming (3.598), women's (indoor and outdoor) track (3.540), and women's golf (3.519) each eclipsed a 3.50 GPA for the semester.

On the men's side, soccer (3.474) led all programs with the team's third-highest semester grades in team history, followed closely by swimming & diving (3.333) and baseball (3.310). Baseball and men's basketball (3.028) had the second-highest semester GPA's on record for those respective programs.

All Missouri State student-athletes with a 3.0 fall semester GPA will be recognized during the men's basketball game against Southern Illinois on Jan. 15 (6:00 p.m.) at Great Southern Bank Arena. The annual Athletic Director's Honor Roll presentation will take place at halftime.
