November 13, 2024

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State women's basketball head coach Beth Cunningham announced Wednesday the commitments of Kendal Brueggen, Audrey Hopkins and Maiesha Washington. All three will enter Missouri State as freshmen next fall.

Kendal Brueggen • Guard • 5-10 • Fr. • Hesston, Kan. • Hesston HS
A 5-10 guard out of Hesston High (Kansas), Brueggen is a two-time all-league unanimous first team selection and first-team all-state performer. As a junior, Brueggen had her best season to date as she helped lead the Swathers to a 22-4 record and state runner-up finish. She averaged 22.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as she racked up first-team all-state honors, was named the non-senior player of the year for classes 1A-3A and was a unanimous first-team all-league selection for the second time. In her sophomore campaign, she averaged 19.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. Brueggen was a unanimous first-team all-league selection and all-state second team honoree following her sophomore season. As a freshman, Brueggen averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game as she earned second-team all-league honors and received state honorable mention recognition by Sports in Kansas. She also played AAU basketball for Mokan.

Coach Cunningham on Brueggen:
"Kendal is combo guard that does all the little things that have an impact on winning. She is gritty and has really good size at the guard spot that will work to her advantage on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. We are so excited for a player like Kendal join our program!"

Audrey Hopkins • Guard • 5-11 • Fr. • Tulsa, Okla. • Lincoln Christian School
A versatile player out of Lincoln Christian School (Oklahoma), Hopkins is a three-time district champion and two-time state runner-up. Last year as a junior, Hopkins collected first-team all-conference honors and was named to the state tournament first team as Lincoln Christian went 29-4 and advanced to the state championship game. She scored 143 points with 59 rebounds and 20 assists in her junior campaign. During her sophomore year, Hopkins logged 382 points, 177 rebounds, 58 assists and 76 steals. For her sophomore year performance in which she helped lead her squad to a 29-4 record and state runner-up finish, Hopkins was named to the all-conference first team and was chosen as the Bulldogs' team MVP. As a freshman, Hopkins scored 232 points and pulled down 109 rebounds as she earned all-conference honors for a 20-6 Bulldogs squad that made a state tournament appearance. She also played AAU basketball for Missouri Phenom.

Coach Cunningham on Hopkins:
"Audrey is a player who can impact the game on both ends of the floor with her toughness and scoring ability. She has the potential to play multiple positions, which bodes well for our system. She is a fierce competitor and embodies the great qualities that it takes to be a part of the Lady Bear program. We're excited to welcome Audrey to our Lady Bear family!"

Maiesha Washington • Forward • 6-0 • Fr. • Fayetteville, Ark. • Legion Prep Academy
A 6-0 forward out of Legion Prep Academy (Texas), Washington is an all-state performer and two-time all-conference selection. In her junior season at Fayetteville High (Arkansas), Washington helped lead her squad to a State Elite 8 finish and was an all-state honoree after averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds per game. After moving to Fayetteville as a sophomore, she posted 10 points and 6 rebounds per game and collected all-conference recognition. As a freshman at Shiloh Christian Academy, Washington averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds per game on her way to earning all-conference honors and the rebound award. She also played AAU basketball for ProSkills.

Coach Cunningham on Washington:
"Maiesha is a versatile forward who has the ability to stretch the floor. She's going to be a great addition to our interior game with skill set that is already polished. She is no stranger to high-level competition as she has faced off against some of the best players in the country on the AAU circuit and within the high school ranks. We are very excited to have Maiesha join our family!"
