The Missouri State men's golf team closed out its spring opener Saturday (Feb. 11) with a 5-1 match-play loss to Eastern Kentucky at the Carpenter/Chaney Classic in Mims, Fla. The Bears took one of their three matches in the tournament, beating Morehead State and losing to Lindenwood on Friday before Saturday's finale.
Senior JP Lavalle garnered MSU's only point Saturday against EKU, notching a 2&1 decision over Will Griffin. In other matches, Max Kreikemeier, Carter Lee and Eric Schuessler all dropped 2&1 decisions to their Colonel opponents, while Christian Rischer lost, 3&2, and Austin Gillund, 5&3.
The Bears are idle next weekend before returning to action at the Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 26-28, in Goodyear, Ariz.
