The Lady Bear Necessities
- Missouri State women's basketball (3-3) opens a six-game home stand on Saturday (1 p.m.) as the Lady Bears welcome Wichita State (4-6) to Great Southern Bank Arena. The former MVC rivals meet for the 89th time as MSU looks to pick up its fifth-straight win over the Shockers at home.
- MSU is currently riding a four-game home win streak dating back to last season. Missouri State's last home loss came on Feb. 19, 2023 against Belmont. The Lady Bears own a 70-12 record inside Great Southern Bank Arena since the beginning of the 2017-18 season.
- In their last outing, the Lady Bears suffered a 63-81 loss on the road at Missouri. Paige Rocca (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa) paced Missouri State with 13 points, three 3-point field goals and three assists.
- Kennedy Taylor (Jr., Shawnee Mission, Kan.) has added an element to her game as a shot-blocker in the early part of the season. She owns a team-leading 10 blocks on the year, which has already surpassed her previous career and season total of nine blocks from a year ago. She ranks 55th nationally and third in The Valley with 1.67 blocks per game.
- In the Beth Cunningham era, the Lady Bears are 16-1 when scoring 70+ points and are 12-0 when holding opponents to under 60 points.
- Missouri State is 3-0 this season when winning the battle on the boards and when recording more assists than its opponents. MSU has won the rebounding battle 132 times in the last 162 contests, going 112-20 when winning on the glass.
- Missouri State's junior class (Green, Scott, Stokes, Taylor) is accounting for 60% of the Lady Bears' scoring this season. The combination of two returners and two transfers has scored 226 of MSU's 377 points on the year.
- Jade Masogayo (So., Fort Worth, Texas) has won all five of her opening tipoff opportunities this season and is a perfect 8-for-8 in winning opening tips for her career.
- Indya Green (Jr., Springfield, Mo.) is leading Missouri State with 11.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She is shooting .474 from the field and owns eight steals and seven assists on the year. Green scored a career-high 26 points earlier this season against Tulane and has led MSU in rebounding three times.
- Missouri State announed recently that it will honor one of its women's basketball all-time greats on Sunday, Jan. 21 with the retirement of Kari Koch's #22 jersey.
The Series
Missouri State leads the all-time series against Wichita State, 51-37, including a 33-12 advantage at home. The squads have alternated wins in the last five meetings with Missouri State serving as the most recent victor with a 68-55 win on Dec. 4, 2019 in Springfield. The old confernence foes will renew their longstanding rivalry over the weekend when they meet for the 89th time.
In the most recent meeting between the two teams, MSU used a 19-2 run in the second half to pull away from the Shockers and secure the victory. Alexa Willard led the way for the Lady Bears with 14 points, followed by Brice Calip with 12 points and four assists. Missouri State also blocked eight shots and held WSU to 0-for-10 from three-point range.
A Lady Bear Win Would...
• Mark MSU's fifth consecutive win at home over Wichita State
• Secure consecutive wins in the series for either team since Missouri State won four straight from 1/30/16-2/5/17.
• Extend MSU's current home win streak to five games, dating back to last season. MSU's last loss at home came on Feb. 19, 2023 against Belmont.
