Starting Five - Storylines for the Drake Game
1) The Missouri State Lady Bears are continuing their tradition of dominance on the boards this season. MSU ranks 6th nationally and 1st in the Missouri Valley Conference with 16.7 offensive rebounds per game, while ranking 2nd in the conference and 20th in the country in total rebound average with 42.8 per game. Missouri State also owns a +11.2 rebound margin, which is 1st in the conference and 6th nationally. The Lady Bears are currently on pace to set the school record for rebound margin at plus-11.2. The current record is plus-10.8 which was set in 2020-21.
2) Missouri State sophomore
Kennedy Taylor continues to impress as a first-year Lady Bear. She is averaging 13.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game on 53% shooting from the field in MVC contests. Taylor tops the Valley and ranks 26th nationally in offensive boards with 3.7 per game and has earned MVC Newcomer of the Week honors twice this season.

Aniya Thomas continues to do it all for the Lady Bears this season, as she leads the team with 14.1 points per game, 87 assists and 43 steals. She has recorded 10 consecutive games with 10+ points and has logged nine games with 5+ assists this season. Thomas also leads the team with three 20-point outings on the year and has reached double figures 15 times.Â
4) Freshman
Jade Masogayo has hit her stride recently as she owns a .750 field goal percentage (24-for-32) over the last five games. On Thursday night against UNI, Masogayo went 6-for-6 from the field to become the first Lady Bear to shoot 100 percent from the field (min. 6 FGA) since
Abby Hipp went 7-for-7 at Boise State on Nov. 10, 2019. She also set her career high last week at Belmont with 16 points. Â
5) Missouri State is 7-0 this season when holding opponents to 60 points or less and the Lady Bears are 8-0 when scoring 70+ points. They also own a 7-0 record when making more free throws than their opponent.
Series History
Missouri State leads the all-time series against Drake, 50-44. The Lady Bears own a 31-18 advantage in Springfield and have won the last eight games in the series. MSU earned wins both at home and on the road against the Bulldogs last season, and in the teams' last meeting, MSU defeated Drake 63-49 in the quarterfinals of the MVC Tournament (3/11/22).Â
The OpponentÂ
Drake has started the season 12-5 and currently sits in second in the MVC standings at 7-2. The Bulldogs are led by Maggie Bair and Grace Berg, who average 15.7 and 13.1 points per game, respectively. Bair also leads the team in field goal percentage at 63%, while Katie Dinnebier tops the team with 95 assists, Anna Miller has 41 blocks coming off the bench and Sarah Beth Gueldner owns 43 triples on the season. As a team, Drake is scoring 81.9 points/game  (.487 FG%) and owns a +10.9 rebounding margin as they pull down 44.2 boards a game.Â
