
Jacardia Wright Named to Valley All-Newcomer Team

ST. LOUIS – Missouri State running back Jacardia Wright (So., Decatur, Ill.) was selected as a member of the 2022 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team, the league announced Tuesday (Nov. 29).

Wright ranks fifth in The Valley in rushing touchdowns (9), fifth in rushing yards per game (71.1), fifth in total touchdowns (10), ninth in all-purpose yards (88.10) and 10th in scoring (6.0).

Missouri State's top rusher with 156 carries for 711 yards and 9 TDs, he also led the Bears in all-purpose yardage (881). He was also the program's first 700-yard rusher since 2014.

The transfer from Kansas State earned MVFC Newcomer of the Week on Sept. 11 after he carried 23 times for 129 yards in addition to three receptions for 42 yards and a TD in MSU's home win over UT Martin. Later, he tallied 97 yards on 12 carries at North Dakota on Oct. 1, and concluded the season on Nov. 19 with 19 attempts for 85 yards and two TDs in the win at Indiana State.

Western Illinois wide receiver Naseim Brantley was named the MVFC Newcomer of the Year, while Indiana State quarterback Cade Chambers was tabbed the league's Freshman of the Year.

The 25-player All-Newcomer team was released a day after the conference announced its 2022 All-MVFC squads. Nine Missouri State players were recognized on the all-conference teams.

Coach Bobby Petrino's squad wrapped up the 2022 season with back-to-back Valley victories and wins in three of its last four contests. After a 2-0 start, the Bears finished 5-6 overall and 3-5 in the MVFC.
