Garrison Selected to Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022

November 11, 2022

SPRINGFIELD – Former Missouri State Lady Bear Casey Garrison Powell was announced as one of the newest members of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The Basketball Luncheon presented by Price Cutter Supermarkets, is set for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Oasis Hotel & Convention Center.

Garrison, who played for the Lady Bears from 2008-2012, was a four-time all-Missouri Valley Conference basketball first team selection. She was the MVC Freshman of the Year her first year and the league's Player of the Year as a sophomore. A product of nearby Bolivar (Mo.) High, she was on the MVC all-defensive team and left school in second place on the all-time MSU list in career games (130), points (2,271), scoring average (17.5), field goals, attempts and free throws, and was in the top 10 in several other categories.

Her MSU career point total trails only former NCAA Division I all-time scoring record holder Jackie Stiles who punched up 3,393 points. Garrison helped lead the Lady Bears of Coach Nyla Milleson to the 2012 MVC regular season title. She scored in double figures in 118 games, second only to Stiles in school history. Stiles is also the only other Lady Bear to win all-league honors four times. Garrison set a school record with 37 consecutive free throws made and owns the fifth and seventh-best scoring seasons in MSU history. She was a 2010 all-district selection from the WBCA.

Garrison was inducted into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020 and will become the sixth former Lady Bear to be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, joining Melody Howard, Cheryl Burnett, Jackie Stiles, Reba Sims and Dr. Mary Jo Wynn.
