ST. LOUIS – Missouri State quarterback
Jason Shelley highlights a list of five Bears announced Tuesday (Nov. 30) as part of the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team.

Shelley was announced last week as the MVFC Newcomer of the Year and is just the third Bear, along with Jason Cannon (1995) and Antoine Wilkinson (2009), to earn this prestigious conference honor.

With five selections, Missouri State is the most-represented school on this year's All-Newcomer Team list. Youngstown State quarterback Demeatric Crenshaw was named MVFC Freshman of the Year.

Shelley, who was also named MVFC Offensive Player of the Year, and Scott were announced Monday as All-MVFC first-team selections with Lane being honored with All-MVFC honorable mention accolades.

Transfer from Mississippi State started the final 5 games of the season and saw action in all 12 contests …. Recorded 13 total tackles in his first season in Springfield … Logged a pass break-up at FBS No. 9 Oklahoma State (9/4/21) … Had a season-high 3 tackles at Youngstown State (10/9/21) … Was a starter in Bears' NCAA Playoff game vs. UT Martin (11/27/21) with a tackle, while helping limit the Skyhawks to just 2.5 yards per carry on the ground.

An athletic defensive lineman who has also excelled on special teams, kickoff returns and time at fullback … Recorded 8 total tackles on the season, including two key tackles at No. 7 Southern Illinois (11/6/21) and two at Dixie State (11/20/21) … Had a 10-yard kickoff return in homecoming win over Indiana State (10/16/21) ... True freshman also racked up 2.0 tackles for loss and a sack in his first collegiate season.
