SPRINGFIELD – A number of high-profile games, including a Dec. 15 home date with Missouri, road trips to South Dakota and Gonzaga, and a spot in the Preseason WNIT, highlight the Missouri State Lady Bears' 2019-20 non-conference basketball schedule announced Wednesday by first-year head coach
Amaka Agugua-Hamilton.
Missouri State's home schedule includes in-state rivals Mizzou and Kansas City, former Missouri Valley Conference foe Wichita State, a visit from Santa Clara, and a first-round Preseason WNIT match-up with Texas A&M Corpus-Christi
A challenging road slate includes 2019 NCAA Tournament teams South Dakota and Gonzaga, as well as Minnesota.
"I am extremely excited about our challenging non-conference schedule," Coach Mox said of the Lady Bears' pre-MVC slate. "We open at Minnesota, have Mizzou at home, with a potential of two more Power Five teams if we survive and advance in the Preseason WNIT. It is a very strong schedule that will help us prepare and give us the necessary RPI needed to take strides towards our ultimate goal - cutting down some nets in March and making a postseason run."
The Lady Bears also have at least two more guaranteed games in the Preseason WNIT in November, with opponents and locations to be determined once the tournament begins. Coach Mox also noted that MSU could add one more game to its non-conference ledger.
Missouri State hosts exhibitions with Lincoln and Southwest Baptist prior to the Nov. 5 opener at Minnesota.
The Missouri Valley Conference will release its schedule in the coming weeks.
The Lady Bears return nearly their entire roster from last season's Sweet 16 team, with 12 players back for the upcoming campaign. MSU went 25-10 overall and 16-2 in MVC play last season, rebounding from a 1-7 start to advance to the program's fourth Sweet 16.
