SPRINGFIELD – Illinois State earned four of the six singles points to hand Missouri State's women's tennis team its first league loss, 5-2, at Cooper Tennis Complex.

Illinois State (15-6, 3-0 MVC) notched wins in all three doubles matches to secure the early 1-0 edge heading into singles play.

The Redbirds continued their win streak, seizing points in the third, fifth, and first flights to extend its margin to 4-0.

Ellie Burger got the Bears (9-8, 2-1 MVC) on the board in the sixth flight, rebounding after a second-set loss to lock up the victory in the third, 7-6, 0-6, 6-3.

No. 1 Anna Alons and No. 2 Alye Darter started strong, each winning their opening set, but Illinois State rallied and stretched the game to three sets before earning both points.

Clara Gandara Gonzalez capped the afternoon with a straight-set decision in the No. 4 spot, 7-6, 6-3.

Both teams battled on the court, seeing half of the singles matches advancing to three sets. However, Illinois State sealed four of the six singles contests to remain perfect in league action.

MSU continues its home schedule tomorrow, welcoming Bradley to Cooper Tennis Complex beginning at 10 a.m.
