Lady Bears Stay Perfect on MVC Road, Top Indiana State 76-66

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Missouri State completed its first ever 9-0 record in Missouri Valley Conference road games with a 76-66 win at Indiana State Saturday at the Hulman Center. The Lady Bears also set a school record with their 11th straight MVC road win dating to last season, and now share the overall road mark with the 1992 team at nine in a row.
The Lady Bears (20-9, 16-2 MVC) earned the No. 2 seed in next week's MVC Tournament in Moline, Ill., with their best MVC record since 2004, and begin play at 6 p.m. Friday against the winner of Thursday's game between seventh-seeded Loyola and No. 10 Evansville.
The Lady Bears never trailed, hitting three of a season-high nine 3-pointers before the first media timeout for a 15-9 lead. MSU shot 53 percent in the first quarter, but only led 22-19 thanks to five turnovers, and the Sycamores (11-18, 5-13) closed within a point on two occasions in the second period before Missouri State pulled away over the final few minutes of the half.
Brice Calip's second 3-pointer began a 9-0 run that ended on Danielle Gitzen's third trey for a 42-29 advantage with 1:43 to play, and Calip scored at the buzzer to make it 46-31 at the break after MSU shot 56 percent in the second quarter.
Missouri State's lead hovered between 10 and 16 points for the duration of the second half, as the Lady Bears won for the 19th time in the last 21 games to reach 20 wins for the third time in the last four seasons.
Calip tallied a game-high 18 points for the Lady Bears, while Gitzen scored 17 on 6-of-10 shooting and Alexa Willard scored 12. Abby Hipp added nine points and a career-high nine rebounds, and Jasmine Franklin collected 11 boards for her eighth double-figure game of the season, helping MSU to a 44-32 lead on the glass with 16 offensive rebounds.
MSU shot 27-for-57 (.474) in the game, 9-for-19 from long range, and got 16 assists from 10 different players, led by four from Willard.Â
