Bears Preseason Preview: Offensive Line
Letterwinners returning/lost: 7/3
Starters returning/lost: 3/2
• MSU returns three starters on the offensive line, including sophomore Coleman Clanton (LT), junior Jordan Turner (LG) and junior Marquis Prophete (RT); junior Aaron Clardy also earned a pair of starts, one at center and one at right guard.Â
• Clanton was one of two Bears, along with LB Egbim, to earn a spot on the Valley All-Newcomer Team last season; he started all 11 games and recorded 42 knockdown blocks in his rookie campaign.
• The Bears also return lettermen Brad Pryor, McKinze James and Cole Christensen in the trenches in addition to squadmen Walter Watson, A.J. David, Casey O'Brien, Lemond Singleton and Charles Carter.
• The offensive line played a huge role in MSU's offensive turnaround last season that included an 80-percent spike in passing yards per game and a 38-percent improvement in total offense per game from 2015.
• MSU's O-line unit allowed just 16 sacks for the entire 2016 season, which ranked second overall in the MVFC and 31st nationally.
• Coach Sean Coughlin is in his 12th season on the Missouri State football staff; the co-offensive coordinator has the largest personnel group on the team with 19 players headed into fall camp, including 12 returning squadmen and seven newcomers -- Caleb Albertson, Connor Haff, Derek Kohler, Grant Martin, Tanner Schiller, Carvell Williams and Cedric Williams.
