DES MOINES, Iowa -- Missouri State's tennis team fell to Drake by the narrowest of margins Sunday, dropping the third set of the final singles match in a 4-3 setback at Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
All three doubles contests were decided by a service break, with the Bears' No. 1 pair of
Ekaterina Donetskova and
Fati Khamissi securing the point for MSU with a 7-5 win. Drake won 6-4 at the No. 2 spot before the Bears took the third flight by an identical margin to even the score.
Phoebe Boeschen capped a perfect 4-0 weekend with a dominating straight-set victory at No. 4 singles, and Donetskova's 6-3, 6-1 win at the fifth spot put the Bears ahead 3-1.
The Bulldogs (9-7, 1-2 Missouri Valley Conference) claimed the last three matches to finish, including three-set victories at the top two lineup spots, culminating with a 7-5 third-set victory in the No. 2 match.
MSU (6-12, 1-2) returns to action Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Evansville.
