CALGARY, Ontario -- Former Missouri State offensive lineman Randy Richards has made the final round of roster cuts for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League and will be in uniform Saturday when his team opens the 2016 CFL season.
Richards started two games for the CFL's Saskatchewan Roughriders a year ago before being traded to Calgary where he spent most of the remainder of the campaign on the Stampeders' practice squad. He did play in Calgary's final regular-season game in 2015.
The 6-foot-3, 320-pounder is listed as the No. 2 right tackle on the Calgary preseason depth chart.
Richards signed an undrafted free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers in April of 2013 and later earned a spot on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad later that fall.
He started 22 games for the Bears from 2011-12 and earned second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference his senior season. He was also an AFCA All-America selection and Associated Press All-America third-team honoree in 2012 after carrying a 98-percent assignment grade with 56 knockdown blocks. He came to Springfield from the College of the Sequoias in Visalia, Calif., where he played two seasons.
The Jamaica-born standout played three sports at Royal Palm Beach High School in Florida.
