April 21, 2016 NCAA Release | APR Searchable Database | APR Averages and Trends | APR Explained | MSU Public Recognition INDIANAPOLIS -- Missouri State University's 17 intercollegiate programs are all listed in good standing for the fifth straight year, according to data released by the National Collegiate Athletics Association on Wednesday (April 20) with its annual Academic Progress Rate (APR) report for Division I institutions.
Missouri State Director of Athletics Kyle Moats noted he was pleased with how the department's coaches and administrators have taken pride in their APR scores.
"Departmentally, we have made it a priority, and I'm very proud of that," Moats explained. "Our coaches embrace the goals we have set, and we work very hard to meet and exceed the NCAA standards. It validates our commitment to maintaining compliant programs and selective recruiting."
The APR formula is based on the percentage of eligibility and retention points earned by student-athletes receiving athletics aid in each sport. A 1000 APR, for instance, is a perfect score. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school (retention) or graduating. This is the 13th year the NCAA has released the APR data of its Division I institutions.
The current APR standards require all Division I programs to earn a 930 four-year average APR or a 940 average over the most-recent two years to participate in NCAA championships. In 2015-16 and beyond, teams must earn a four-year APR of 930 to compete in championships. The report released this week includes the school years 2011-12 through 2014-15.
The multi-year (four-year) APR for MSU's 17 programs are (alphabetically): baseball 981, men's basketball 969, women's basketball 978, women's cross country 976, field hockey 991, football 952, men's golf 985, women's golf 977, men's soccer 997, women's soccer 984, softball 997, men's swimming and diving 995, women's swimming and diving 993, women's tennis 1000, women's track and field (indoor and outdoor) 974, and volleyball 995. Four programs performed at a 980 four-year APR rate or higher.
All MSU programs also exceed the 940 average over the most-recent two-year period, the NCAA's other metric for APR compliance.
Missouri State's men's soccer program received public recognition from the NCAA last week for its four-year APR score, which ranks among the top 10 percent of all Division I programs. It was the programs' first-ever public recognition award and just the third MSU team to receive the honor.
