Missouri State Student-Athletes Recognized for Academic Excellence

April 11, 2016 SPRINGFIELD -- A total of 192 Missouri State University student-athletes were recognized during the sixth annual Maroon and White Honors Banquet and Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony held Monday (April 10) evening at Hammons Student Center. The student-athletes were recognized for achieving a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade-point average for all semesters at Missouri State.

This year's crop of academic honorees represents better than 46 percent of MSU's student-athletes currently participating in its 17 intercollegiate programs.

The annual Scholar Athlete of the Year Award was presented to the graduating student-athletes holding the highest cumulative grade point averages. The recipients of this year's awards were: male recipient Jack Snow, a swimmer majoring in Biology with a 3.91 grade point average; and co-female recipients in soccer standout Molly Brewer, who has a 4.00 GPA in General Business, and Jessi Pope, a field hockey performer with a 4.00 GPA majoring in Pschology. All three recipients will be participate in May commencement on the Springfield campus.

The ceremony also included recognition by the student-athletes of their faculty mentors in attendance for their hard work and dedication to Missouri State's student-athletes. Additional remarks and congratulations were offered by Missouri State University Provost Dr. Frank Einhellig.

Significant individual academic achievers were also highlighted, including MVC Elite 18 Award recipient and volleyballer Brianne Dixon. Missouri Valley Conference President's Council Academic Excellence Awards were also bestowed on six MSU performers, including women's soccer players Brewer, Cassie Le and Rachel Federhofer, softball outfielder Rebecca McPherson, All-MVC hoops standout Kenzie Williams, and NCAA track qualifer Robiann Broomfield.

Likewise, the Mid-American Conference recognized 13 MSU student-athletes with MAC Presidential Awards for graduating seniors with a 3.50 cumulative GPA or higher. Swimmers Miguel Davila, Aaron Dennis, Uvis Kalnins, Jack Snow and Matthew Wilson, along with field hockey honorees Patrice Ahl, Kimberleigh Eng, Jackie Eskue, Jessi Pope, Charlie Redhead, Sydney Richelieu, Holly Scherer earned these prestigious awards from the MAC.

The final honor of the night, The Highest Team GPA Awards, were presented to the Missouri State men's golf team (3.43 GPA) and softball (3.57 GPA) programs.
