The Missouri State men's golf team will take a four-shot lead into Tuesday's (Mar. 22) final round of their own Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield. The Bears carded 292-290--582 Monday on the strength of consistent play from four players, and put themselves in position to win their second tournament of the season. They won the USD Coyote Classic back in September.
Central Arkansas is second entering the last day after shooting 291-295--586, while Valparaiso (588), Western Illinois (596) and SIUE (600) round out the top five.
Senior Mitch Mather led the way for MSU in the first two trips around the par 71, 6701-yard layout at Twin Oaks Country Club. The reigning Missouri Amateur champion posted 71-72--143 and trails leader Luis Oboils of UCA by three shots after the latter carded 69-71--140.
Senior Joey Johnson is next for the Bears, in fifth place after shooting 71-73--144. Freshmen Kory Franks and Adam Fisher are next in seventh and 14th, respectively. Franks went 75-71--146, while Fisher posted 75-74--149. Senior Brik Brauburger is tied for 44th at 79-77--156. A pair of Bears played as individuals -- Brian Rogers is tied for 36th at 77-77--154 and John Fuchs is tied for 54th with 79-83--162.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. start off no. 1 and 10 tees.
