Sept. 12, 2015 Recap | Final Stats
Head Coach Dave Steckel
Opening statement...
"We won the game, which is great."
On the defense...
"I was really, very impressed with our defense today. They did a great job with their backs to the wall. The defense also did a great job on key downs. Yes, we gave up some up some yards but if you really sit back and analyze it, we only gave up two big plays. We were in zero coverage and both times we missed the tackle. However, what I think it showed was great effort from our players."
On momentum from players...
"I think by going in the locker room at halftime with a touchdown picked up some spirits. It picked up a 'we can do this' kind of attitude."
On Breck...
"It's like any kid who's playing... It's only his second start. He did some things where you sit there and are like, wow that's remarkable. Likewise, he did some things where you're going 'what are you doing knucklehead,' probably just like your kids did while they were growing up. The thing that is cool for everybody, and the fans, is Breck's going to grow up in front of our eyes and pretty soon you be saying wow, and you'll forget about these growing pains that we had. He's doing some things really, really well and he's got a great strong arm. He's got to learn when to be soft with it and when to be strong with it."
On biggest difference from last week to this week...
"I think compared to last week, we have improved 50%. Now we need to get another 50% better."
Sophomore Calan Crowder
On his performance...
"I feel like any player wants the ball in his hands when it's clutch time."
Senior Robert Booker
On today's game...
"We got clicking more consistently on a drive-to-drive basis. Every week we'll work to get better, get things smoother."
On the today's running game...
"I usually don't know which back is in, since face the other way, but they're all great backs. Calan is, Phoenix is, Ryan Heaston, they're all great backs. I feel comfortable with every one of them out there."
Junior Dylan Cole
On today's win...
"It's always great when you win, I mean, you're happy. These coaches worked, our players worked, and to finally get a win. We're not satisfied, but we are happy with the win."
On overall defense performance...
"We want to lessen the penalties, obviously, we want to be more defensively. From a defensive stand point, get our gaps down. Overall, I think we did a great job flying to the football. I bet in a lot of the frames we watch, you'll see 11 guys to the football and I think we did a great job. We need to do a better job tackling, as I said, I missed and it went for a big play. We understand that and we'll work on it in practice and we'll get better."
