MSU Women's Golf Finishes Second at Kansas City Shootout

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri State women's golf team shot an 18-over-par 306 in the final round of the Kansas City Shootout, presented by Gary Crossley Ford, on Tuesday to finish second overall.

The Bears, who began the day tied for third with Western Michigan, rallied to post the fourth-best round of the day and finish at 46-over 910 at the 6,124-yard, par-72 Shoal Creek Golf Course.

Junior Megan Furnish carded the Bears' best individual round of the day, a 2-over 74, to jump nine spots to 13th overall at 11-over 227. Freshman Verena Gimmy, who was tied for second at 1-over, dropped to a tie for seventh at 8-over 224, on the heels of a 79 Tuesday. She tied for fifth going 1-over on the course's four par 3s.

"I'm proud of how our team has developed and improved from the start of the season until now," Missouri State head coach Kevin Kane said. "I think we're better in a lot of areas. We just need to keep working hard to be better for our next tournament."

Freshman Stine Pettersen and senior Chiara Citterio tied for 22nd at 231. Pettersen posted a 3-over 75, while Citterio, who led the Bears with eight birdies in the tournament, closed with an 81.

Senior Megan Thompson matched her opening-round 78 to finish at 22-over-par 238. Sophomore Caroline Boone, playing as an individual, shot an 81 to finish tied for 51st at 24-over 240.

Middle Tennessee claimed the team crown in the 13-team field, shooting 292 in the final round and 12-over 876 overall. MTSU's Allie Knight won individual medalist honors on the second playoff hole over teammate Samantha Gotcher. The pair entered extra holes knotted at 1-over 217.

Missouri State will now gear up for the Missouri Valley Conference tournament set to take place at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa, April 19-21.
