SPRINGFIELD -- Junior Camyn Boone (F, Seattle, Wash.) and senior Christian Kirk (F, Springfield, Mo.) were the top award recipients Wednesday (March 25) at the annual Missouri State University men's basketball awards banquet, held at University Plaza Hotel in Springfield. Boone was presented with the Coors Player of the Year Award, while Kirk was selected as this year's Guy Thompson Award recipient.

The Coors Player of the Year Award is sponsored by Heart of America Beverage and carries with it a $1,500 scholarship to the Missouri State general scholarship fund in the name of the winner. Coors is also the title sponsor of the MSU Player of the Week honors. The weekly and yearly selections are selected by representatives of Missouri State media outlets.

Boone tied for seventh in the Missouri Valley Conference in total rebounding (5.4), ranked third in the league in field goal percentage (.571), was eighth in blocked shots (0.8) and sixth in offensive rebounds (2.0). He was also second in the MVC in conference-game field goal accuracy (.602). He led the Bears in rebounding, field goal percentage and dunks (15), started 30 games and averaged 9.5 points per game in league play. He was also MSU's top rebounder in 13 games this winter while scoring in double figures 12 times.

The transfer from Mesa (Ariz.) Community College is the first junior to win the MSU Coors Player of the Year honor since Kyle Weems (2011) and first newcomer to claim the honor since Adam Leonard (2010).

The Guy Thompson Award is presented annually to the men's basketball senior player who demonstrates outstanding character, leadership, athleticism and academic success. The award is named in honor of the former MSU registrar and long-time basketball public address announcer.

Kirk played in 125 games during his MSU career which ranks 8th all-time, while his 718 career points ranks 68th. He made 54 starts as a Bear and snagged 426 rebounds with a .528 field goal percentage and 31 dunks.

Conference award winners Dorrian Williams (Jr., Oklahoma City, Okla.), Austin Ruder (So, Nixa, Mo.) and Tyler McCullough (So., Fayetteville, Ark.) were also honored and presented certificates from the Missouri Valley Conference office. Williams was on the MVC's Most-Improved Team, while Ruder (first team) and McCullough (second team) were honored as MVC Scholar-Athlete Team recipients.
