CLEVELAND, Ohio - Missouri State men's senior swimmer Paul Le has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Monday, Feb. 2.
Paul Le led the Missouri State men's swimming and diving team in the Shamrock Invitational against the No. 19 Iowa Hawkeyes, host Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Incarnate Word Cardinals in the two-day dual this past weekend.
In the Invite from Friday-Saturday, Le earned two victories for the Bears in the 200 IM (1:47.94) and the 200 back (1:45.48), serving as the only MSU multi-event winner at the Rolfs Aquatic Center.
The Moore, Okla., native earned runner-up finishes in both the 100 back (48.26) and the 100 fly (48.89). Le lost to the eventual winners from the 19th-ranked Hawkeyes by less than a second in both events. He was defeated in the 100 back by Grant Betulius - who currently has the second fastest time in Division I swimming in the event - and fell in the 100 fly to Jerzy Twarowski - who has the 14th fastest time in Division I currently in the event.
Le also competed in three relay events for the Bears. He served as the first leg for all three of the relays, with MSU finishing second in the 800 free relay (6:41.46) and third in the 200 medley relay (1:31.34) and 400 medley relay (3:19.22).
This is the second time this year - and seventh time in his career - that Le has been recognized by the conference. He previously won the award this season on Oct. 6 after MSU completed the Missouri Show-Me Showdown, the Bears' first event of the 2014-15 season.
The Missouri State men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its regular season Saturday with the conclusion of the Shamrock Invitational. The men's team next heads to the Mid-American Conference Championships which begin on Wednesday, March 4, in Geneva, Ohio.
