Oct. 3, 2015 Recap | Final Stats
Head Coach Dave Steckel
Opening statement...
"We gotta move forward with this, but it's deja vu. We gotta get the problems fixed and it's my responsibility to get them fixed."
On how improvements will be made...
"It's going to start with discipline. From the coaches, from the staff, and we gotta get fundamentally sound. We have to be fundamentally sound which starts with me, which starts with the coaching. For example, catching the ball, throwing the ball, running better, blocking better, tackling better, beating our gaps. Too many guys are out of their gaps, which is poor coaching on my part. So when I saw how we are going to fix it, we are going to do a better job on discipline."
On Indiana State's quarterback...
"I think we were able to keep his feet alive a little bit, when he scrambled. What's key for us is we have to match the coverage alive and we didn't. They got two touchdowns out of that which was disappointing. The flip side of that is we sacked him six times, so the guys did a great job getting after him. So there is some brightness and a silver cloud sometimes. If we keep working hard, we'll see the rainbow."
On Holliman's performance...
"Well, for starters, he's quick as a hiccup, which really helps him out. He's got great quickness and he's a product of work. You reap what you sew and he comes to work every day. He really works at his trade. He's constantly working and improving as a receiver, but he's really improving well as a kickoff returner. He really takes pride in being a kickoff returner."
Junior Dylan Cole
On overall performance...
"I think we just kicked ourselves in the foot really. I think if we just ease up on the minimal mistakes and continue to play hard and find our rhythm, we'll be alright."
On how to improve...
"We just gotta stay focused and stay tuned-in to the game and finish. That's what we gotta do."
On preparation for next week...
"We drop this game and we focus on next week. We work on getting better and understanding what we have to do. We have a good conference but we can definitely compete."
Sophomore Colby Isbell
On defensive pressure...
"Just as a team, we were pushing each other and working hard, but we still gotta keep working."
Junior Brodie Lambert...
On first half offense...
"I think we moved the ball well in the first half. Obviously, we'd like more than 14, but I think we're pretty happy with how we were moving it. I think we started out slow in the second half, but I mean the first half went pretty well in my opinion."
