ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Missouri State University spirit squads recently returned from successful performances at the 2015 UCA/UDA Nationals, held at Disney's Wide World of Sports here, January 16-18.

For the third year in a row, the MSU Cheerleaders finished fifth in the Universal Cheerleaders Association Division 1 coed finals. It marked the squad's 10th consecutive top-five national finish.

Delaware earned its second straight Division 1 cheer title, followed by Morehead State, Wichita State, Belmont and Missouri State in the top five.

At the Universal Dance Association Nationals, the Sugar Bears dance team finished seventh in the Division 1 Jazz finals, won by Cal State Fullerton for the third year in a row. Delaware was second, followed by Hofstra, Southeastern Louisiana, Long Beach State, Northern Arizona and Missouri State. Rounding out the top 10 in the field of 21 national qualifiers were Milwaukee, Florida Gulf Coast, North Dakota State and Towson.

In the Division 1 hip hop competition, the Sugar Bears did not advance to the finals, but placed 9th overall in the 12-team field for their seventh straight top 10 finish in this category. St. Joseph's won the overall Division 1 Hip Hop title for the second year in a row, followed by Delaware, Southeastern Louisiana and St. John's to round out the top four.

MSU spirit squads coordinator Susan Brown noted how hard the teams worked in Orlando and how well they represented the University.

"I am so proud of our Cheerleaders and Sugar Bears," Brown said. "Their hard work and dedication payed off at Nationals, and they represented Missouri State in a first class manner."

The showcase of the country's best college cheerleaders, dance team performers and mascots, is in its 31st year.
